NIMH to Screen Studies for Science and Human Risks
Article Abstract:
Director Steven Hyman of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) believes that a review panel is needed to screen participants in clinical studies on psychiatric disorders. He plans to recommend such a panel for NIMH-funded studies. Psychiatric case studies previously have been criticized by ethicists and patient activists. Especially controversial were studies that involve needless patient risk.
